Assessments

Situation assessments

Outbreak assessments in the shape APHA uses, built from public reports, with our own maps and what the facts mean for keepers and pet owners in the UK.

What one looks like

Each assessment is a short PDF you can download, print and share. It follows the shape of the Animal and Plant Health Agency's own outbreak assessments, because that shape is the one UK keepers and vets already know.

  1. Situation. What has been reported, where, since when, and by whom, with the date of every figure.
  2. How it got there. What the official reports say about the likely source and routes, in their words. Where a report says the source is unknown, so do we.
  3. Our maps. Places at country, region or county level, never a premises.
  4. What it means in the UK. The government's own published risk level, restated as published and dated. OutbreakLens never sets a risk level of its own.
  5. What keepers and owners can do. The published guidance, pointed to, not rewritten.
  6. Sources. Every report and page used, with its date.

They are educational syntheses of public data: not veterinary, trade or official advice, and not affiliated with any government body. They are free. If you would like one on a particular outbreak, say so: [email protected].

  • Ten wild birds found dead in Great Britain tested positive between 5 and 25 October, nine with H5N1.
  • In Europe the virus has reached poultry farms in Denmark and Germany, and wild bird outbreaks in the EU's weekly reports have risen.
  • The government's risk levels, restated as published: wild birds medium, poultry low or very low depending on biosecurity.
